This morning we skied our first day of GS! We worked on four sections: an apex drill, an 18m course, a 20m course, and a 24m course. Everyone improved exponentially in their tactical approach thanks to several tech talks, carefully inspecting the proper line, and helpful brushes in the course, (video can be found on Sprongo). This afternoon we had quiet / nap time, as energy seems to be depleting, followed by movement training with David Kent for regeneration. We are excited to continue to build on this GS progression tomorrow.
Beautiful day once again. Definitely the hardest snow we have had so far this trip. The kids adjusted to it nicely. We finished our slalom progression with 4 sections of slalom. Paneled slalom, brushes, stubbies and long pole. Lots of volume!
In the afternoon we took a gentle hike to the spectacular Tamanawas Falls. Everyone is excited to get on their GS skis tomorrow!
Today was our first and only day off, and the kids definitely needed it! Everyone has been working hard on the hill with tons of volume. This morning we slept in, watched video, and tuned. This afternoon a group went to the alpine slide, and then we all headed to the Wildwood Camp Grounds for a game of capture the flag and a barbecue. We had a meeting about the fundamentals of slalom in preparation for tall-pole training tomorrow.
Today was a very productive day. We had 4 sections of slalom. Three separate paneled slalom courses and a stubbie course through some challenging terrain and rollers. As a group we focused on good depth and elevation above the gate. This afternoon Jake Stevens, US Race Manager for Rossignol, came to talk with kids about how to take care of their skis and boots. We also had the kids do an agility/coordination workout before dinner. The evening was a trip to Govy to check out the town. Looking forward to a restful day off tomorrow!
Great day today! A little cooler, so the snow was firmer. We continued on our slalom progression adding brushes and stubbies into the mix. Sprongo is up and running for those interested in seeing your racer in their glory. You will need a Sprongo account to view. Please use this link to sign up - Click here to join GMVS Mount Hood 2017. For regeneration this afternoon David Kent ran a session of body movement and dance. Tonight we had a birthday celebration for Matt and Steve! Tomorrow we continue our slalom progression with stubbie and paneled slalom.
Today everyone did an awesome job performing under the fatigue of travel. Our main priority once we got our feet back under us was to work on turn shape and keeping a solid inside half. After a few hours of general fundamental progression, led by Dave Wenn, we broke off into small groups to focus on a single fundamental skill or weakness. Once we got off the hill, we had a long team meeting about camp expectations, goals, and opportunities. Then we tuned, napped, played fooseball, got milkshakes, did a core work out, and watched video with coaches. Back on slalom skis again tomorrow for more work on fundamentals and to continue our progression into gate training!
