Today was a rest day from the slopes! We went on a moderate 3.4 mile hike to Tamanawas Falls, a beautiful waterfall that we could walk behind. This afternoon was rest time in the condos and a trip to the pool for those who were interested. Before dinner we did individual video review sessions with coaches, and after we watched World Cup video as a whole group. We are excited to begin a GS progression tomorrow!
Today was a beautiful day on the mountain! The snow froze and stayed hard for most of the morning. Lines were long so most athletes hiked at least 1 run to speed up the turn around. Coaches set an apex drill, with two brushes indicating the top and the bottom of the turn. This is a great introduction to tactics and a guide for turn-shape. David ran a movement based regenerative dry-land this afternoon, and then Jake Stevens, US Race Director of Rossignol, gave a talk about tuning and equipment preparation. After dry-land we watched video individually with coaches before dinner. We are planning on staggering our start tomorrow in order to get more sleep and avoid the rush-hour lines.
We hit the ground running today with slalom fundamentals. Broken into groups of about 6 kids each, we focused on finding our balance and athletic stance. As expected, it was a bluebird day. This afternoon we had a team meeting to discuss camp goals and expectations. Then coach Dan ran a recovery focused dryland training session, and athletes wrote in their daily journals.
We are looking forward to skiing paneled slalom tomorrow! Hello campers and parents!
Welcome to the GMVS Mt. Hood summer blog! Flights are touching down shortly, and campers will be rolling into our Collins Lake condos throughout the day. On the agenda: unpack duffles and ski bags, get to know our bunkmates, and fuel up on good food and rest for the first segment of our camp! Day 1 will be slalom free skiing with some brushes incorporated for turn shape. It looks like its going to be sunny and bluebird, we hope you packed sunscreen! Check in daily for updates and pictures. |
